I’m back!!! I took a few weeks off for the Christmas season, but my fingers are itching to do some writing.
As a home school family we have the freedom to take off from school whenever we see fit. This is a double edge sword, and it can lead us down the wrong road quickly. From Thanksgiving to New Years we do very little school work. We like to take time to enjoy out of time family, bake special treats and enjoy time with Dad on the days he takes off work. This year we had family staying with us from Dec. 10th through Christmas, with a total of 19 people living in our home. It is safe to say there was NO school work getting done during this time. Now that the chaos is over we are trying to find our footing in school again. Having such a long break has given the kids and I a sluggish start. We want to keep playing, but we know the work must get done.
My laid back personality tells me to take a few more days off and relax, but I know that it is not what the children or I need. We need to get back on track and move forward with a regular schedule. To make this happen I recruit some help from the kids. I tell them “on Monday we are going to start school”, and then they will spend the next few days talking about school. I get asked several times by the little ones “is today when we start school?” Their excitement gets me excited and helps me keep to the plan. It also helps everyone to get in the “back to work” mindset.
We are now back in the swing of our organized chaos, and it’s only a matter of time until life happens and our daily routine is tossed to the side for a moment. When it happens I will try my best not to get flustered or lazy. I will try to let life happen and then get back on track with joy in my heart!

I love your writing and keeping up with your blog. I need to get back to work on my blog. I kept the first one for like six years and the new one I kept for about two years and haven’t written in like six months. We seem so caught up in homeschool and life in the hotel while we are traveling with my husband and his job that I never take the time to sit and write other than an email. The title of this post drew me to it even tho I read all of your posts. Your kids are precious. I’ve had some chaos going on in my life that is out of my hands and this encouraged me to keep going forward with JOY. I feel I am losing my joy through the chaos (the kind that hurts) and I need to keep relying on God to keep days happy and full of joy so my childrens’ memories will be good ones and that we can bring back the happy happy! Thank you for your writing. I miss it when you do not write. You are a very precious lady. God bless you. If you ever want to contact me, my email is AThankfulMommy@gmail.com Blessings! Cassidy
Thank you so much for your kinds words. I am so glad my words have helped you, that is my goal! Being a mom is hard work and it is not always easy to find the joy in it, and that is somthing I want to change. My goal is to post every wednesday, but life happens. I give facebook updates, so if you are on FB be sure to like with joy in our hearts page for updates. All of my joy comes from God, and it is He that hleps me find joy in parenting!

I’m glad my comment went through because I thought it got lost. God is my only way too. I love my children so much and try to do fun things with them and yet teach them responsibility too. I struggle with cooking and things like that and I need to remedy that. I don’t like to cook and barely know many things I can cook. But I am trying to put a warm meal on the table each evening even if we have something simple for lunch which we normally do. I just sometimes get hurried away in everything that I forget to stop, slow down and enjoy each day. with chores and homeschool it seems our days are gone so quickly. At night we watch tv as a family and I usually crochet or something. Please keep writing and I am going to go try to find your FB page now. God bless you abundantly! Cassidy

we’re in a similar situation – coming home from traveling, being sick, and trying to find that groove again. Praise God for flexibility!!
